ESR has awarded a PhD scholarship to Gulraiz Ahmed to investigate the fluid mechanics of bloodstain formation. The project supervised by Mathieu Sellier, Mark Jermy and Michael Taylor from ESR-Christchurch will combine experiments and numerical simulations to understand the correlation between the blood droplet impact parameters and the resulting stain shape. This project hopes to contribute to the development of more reliable analysis tools for forensic scientists in their endeavour to understand crime scenes
